Before you shop

  • Confirm the list and preferences: Ask your client or their family for a specific list and clarify any dietary needs, allergies, or brand preferences.
  • Establish a financial plan: Understand the payment process beforehand. Do you use the client’s cash, a store card, your own money for reimbursement, or a company-issued card? Keep a clear record of all transactions, especially if using your own funds.
  • Plan your trip: Check your client’s fridge and pantry to avoid buying duplicates and consider a meal plan for the week. This helps streamline the process and stick to a budget.

While shopping

  • Shop strategically: Go during off-peak hours to avoid crowds and long lines.
  • Be physically safe: Use a cart to avoid carrying heavy bags by hand. Lift with your legs, not your back, to prevent injury.
  • Practice hygiene: Wear a mask and sanitize your hands frequently, especially after touching surfaces like shopping cart handles or before and after handling payment.
  • Respect distance: Keep at least 6 feet of distance from others.
  • Pay smart: If possible, use contactless payment options like a tap-to-pay card.

After you shop

  • Disinfect and store: Wash your hands immediately upon returning home. Disinfect grocery bags, cans, and packaging before storing items.
  • Properly put away groceries: Help your client put the groceries away, ensuring items are stored according to their needs and preferences.
  • Document expenses: Keep a clear record of all expenses and receipts, especially if you used your own money, to support the reimbursement process.
